Taking grade 10 Explorative Education

Are you in grade nine, feeling pressured over what courses to take in your upcoming second year of high school? Are you wondering how you're going to fit in all of your electives and academic courses into only two semesters of grade ten? Explorative education is a two-credit course that incorporates the fun and fitness aspects of a physical education course with the compulsory grade ten civics and careers class needed for graduation for an overall great student experience.

At first glance, a course that simply combines a gym credit and your civics and careers credit may seem like no big deal. However because you are with the same class of about 20 students for an entire afternoon (two back to back periods), the course includes a surplus of field trips and community involvement activities over the course of the semester- and you barely miss any school! Some of your opportunities may include hiking, camping, rock-climbing, a trip to Sherway Gardens, zip lining, bowling, yoga, class walks to the local plaza and volunteering for the local food bank. For a portion of the semester, explorative education students get to spend afternoons twice a week volunteering at local feeder schools as reading buddies for younger children. This is a fantastic way to become involved in your community and allows you to be a mentor for little kids.

Participating in the Explorative Education course will not only broaden your community involvement but certify you for First Aid through a two-four day training course, which can be helpful when looking to apply for jobs when you turn 16. Taking this course is not only fun and stress free, but also boosts your resume in a number of different ways.

If you are looking to take a fun and experiential course, then I strongly recommend taking Explorative Education when you are thinking about course selection for grade ten. This course keeps you engaged and active by taking you on experiences outside of the classroom, and also teaches you the necessary concepts of civics and careers. No more stress over your grade 10 course selection!
