All summer, concerned citizens have been demonstrating against recent large-scale changes to the
Ontario curriculum. On September 21st, tens of thousands of students from across the province walked out of their classrooms en masse in protest of these new changes. On the 23rd - a week ago today - over a hundred protesters came out to Queen’s Park to make their voices heard about the issue. And the movement is nowhere near over.

Candidates' Meeting 2018

This Monday and Tuesday (May 28th and 29th)  Iroquois Ridge High School will be participating in the provincial Student Vote. This program is designed to measure the opinions of future generations of voters, and the results are tallied throughout the province and released to the media after general polling. Earlier this month, on the 15th of May, candidates from both of the ridings that Iroquois Ridge represents (from Oakville and Oakville North Burlington) came into our school to address the student body directly about their platforms and to encourage students to come out and vote.

Cabaret Night

On October 19, musicians and music-lovers alike gathered in IRHS cafeteria for our first major music event of the year- Cabaret Night. Our school’s bands and music classes, not to mention individual performers from the student body, have been preparing for a long time for this event, and their practice really paid off.

Now, a new council is becoming established in the school- the Arts Council. Its executive members met with Ridge Report in June to present themselves to the student body.

US Supreme Court: United States V Texas

WASHINGTON D.C.- On April 18, 2016, the line to view the day’s US Supreme Court case stretches around the block. In fact, the line has been pushed back to make room for the crowds of reporters, television crews, and protesters clustering below the steps. Some are setting up, some are starting to record, and some are walking around the area, interviewing case-watching hopefuls and protesters, who are holding up signs and chanting in both English and Spanish. The most common words are “Sí, se puede”- ‘Yes, we can!’.

Fall Fest 2015

October marked the beginning one of the first of the school’s big events, Fall Fest. Despite the rainy weather outside and the low temperatures, clubs and vendors lined “the street” while students, parents, teachers and members of the community of Oakville wandered around eating corn and sweets, listening to performers, and catching up with friends. The atmosphere was cheerful and people were having a very good time.
