YOU LIKE YOUR HORROR:
Gothic and chilling, with romance
YOU LOVED THE MOVIES:
Sweeney Todd, Interview with the Vampire, Pan's Labyrinth
This movie is about a girl, who, after the death of her parents, moves into a new house with the man she loves...one that 'breathes, bleeds, and remembers'. I first saw the trailer for this movie and was captivated by the beautiful visuals and costumes. It did meet standards when I watched it last week, but the ending was not my favorite...

YOU LIKE YOUR HORROR:
Simplistic, with some jump scares
YOU LOVED THE MOVIES:
Chucky, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween
Go for a classic! I watched this movie a few years ago with my family. Since it was so well-known, I was expecting it to be absolutely terrifying. But while the horror was a little out-dated it just turned out to be entertaining. Overall, a fun, simple horror movie to watch!
Released June 2012 |
6. PROMETHEUS
STARRING:
Noomi Rapace, Logan Marshall-Green, Michael Fassbender
YOU LIKE YOUR HORROR:
Filled with Sci-fi and 'unearthly' creatures
YOU LOVED THE MOVIES:
Alien, Gravity, The Thing
This movie is about a team who journeys across the universe to find the origin of mankind. I've watched all three movies; Alien, Gravity, and the Thing, but Prometheus stood out to me the most. It has great effects and a very intriguing plot. Even though I'm not a big fan of sci-fi, I enjoyed this movie!
Released October 2009 |
7. TRIANGLE
STARRING:
Melissa George, Joshua McIvor, Jack Taylor
YOU LIKE YOUR HORROR:
Filled with twists and turns, mystery and thrillers
YOU LOVED THE MOVIES:
Creep, Sinister, Shutter Island
This movie is about a woman on a yachting trip in the Atlantic Ocean. When she feels threatened by mysterious weather conditions, she makes the horrible mistake of getting on a strange ship. This plot scared me because it was quite realistic, and it's definitely got some blood and gore. Lots of dead bodies. Be warned.
Released July 2013 |
8. THE CONJURING
STARRING:
Patrick Wilson, Vera Farmiga, Ron Livingston
YOU LIKE YOUR HORROR:
Creepy and nightmarish, with haunted houses and monsters
YOU LOVED THE MOVIES:
Mama, Annabelle, Insidious
This movie is about two paranormal investigators who are brought in to solve the case of a 'haunted' farmhouse. I thought this was a great movie. Good effects, solid plot, scary 70's theme, and pure horror.
In theatres now |
9. GOOSEBUMPS (read our review!)
STARRING:
Jack Black, Dylan Minnette, Odeya Rush
YOU LIKE YOUR HORROR:
Comedic, adventurous, to be watched lightly
YOU LOVED THE MOVIES:
Spiderwick Chronicles, Gremlins, The Golden Compass
A completely harmless movie to watch with your family! Nothing that will make you scream in fear, but will still get you in Halloween spirit nevertheless. I recommend taking a little sister or a brother to watch it with you.
10. THE SIXTH SENSE
STARRING:
Bruce Willis, Haley Joel Osment, Toni Collette
YOU LIKE YOUR HORROR:
Ghostly and creepy
YOU LOVED THE MOVIES:
The Others, Orphan, Insidious
This movie is about a little boy who can communicate with spirits, and seeks the help of a child psychologist. Kept me guessing until the very end! The ending was very shocking. Although this is a rather old movie, it stuck with me for a long time. I highly recommend it.
If I absolutely had to, I'd rate the Sixth Sense and the Conjuring at the top of this list. But let me know what your favorite Halloween movies to watch are.
Then grab some popcorn, and some friends or family, and cuddle up on the couch for a home-made Halloween celebration!
