🗺 Tasty Treats #2 - Boredom Busting Bon Appétit 🗺

For many people around the world, March Break may be over, but they will not head back to school or work for at least another two weeks. The coronavirus pandemic has caused many school and work closures, and we know that many people are getting bored. Most likely, you have tried to pass the time in one way or another. Try:

  • Finishing any work you have remaining.
  • Watching television, shows, or movies.
  • Reading a book.
  • Spending time with your loved ones (if you cannot because of social distancing - give them a call or talk to them over video chat!).
  • Playing board or card games.
  • Organizing and cleaning up.
  • Some crafts, art, and DIYs.
  • Playing some video games (if you want, attempt playing online games that you can play with friends!).
  • Playing outside.

These are just some examples. Cooking and baking is a great, productive, and yummy way to spend some time, so this week on Tasty Treats, we’ve created a delicious and easy-to-make recipe! Enjoy!

Tasty Treats: Banana Bites
Apart from being rich in fibre, potassium, and other nutrients, as well as being good for the heart, digestion, and battling anaemia (just to name a few!), bananas are also delectable! This dessert is a simple and fun twist on bananas!
Banana Bites
Ingredients:
1 banana
⅓ cup chocolate (any type works)
A bit of butter (optional)
Toppings (optional)

Materials:
Microwave-Safe Bowl
Spoon
Fork
Microwave
Tray
Tin Foil or Parchment Paper
Fridge or Freezer

Directions:
  1. Chop the banana into bites-sized slices and place on a tin foil- or parchment paper- lined tray.
  2. Next, if using chocolate, break or chop the chocolate into tiny pieces using a knife. The tinier the pieces are, the quicker they will melt. Place the chocolate with the butter (if using) in a microwave-safe bowl and place it in the microwave for 30-second intervals, checking and stirring the chocolate with a spoon between each.
  3. Using a fork, take a banana slice and dip it into the chocolate, making sure to cover it entirely. Carefully place it back on the tray.
  4. Sprinkle on toppings and place the banana bites into the freezer for about 15 minutes.
  5. When it is done, carefully lift banana bites off the tray and your banana bites are complete. It's very ap-peeling to eat!
Customize:
  • Substitute the chocolate base for chocolate spread, chocolate sauce, or yogurt. If you use chocolate spread, only microwave it for about 30-seconds. If you use chocolate sauce or yogurt, there is no need to heat it up.
  • Adding butter to the chocolate before melting adds shine, but the same effect will occur by using a substitute such as coconut oil. 
  • Try using different types of bases together. You can layer, swirl, or create patterns with them.
  • Try dipping the banana using different techniques, such as half-dipping it or making interesting patterns (ex. Webs, splatters, dots, etc.)
  • Use different toppings, such as fruits, nuts, sprinkles, shredded coconuts, or even other fruits.
  • Pour the chocolate into ice-cube molds or cookie cutters and then fill with mashed banana for a variety of shapes.
