Image result for phone ban ontarioThroughout the year, you may have heard of Ontario's new phone ban laws in classrooms all over the province. This proposed policy has been created with the intent to lessen distraction and eliminate cell phone use in classrooms. The purpose is to allow students to focus on their learning. Ontario will be restricting the use of cell phones in class starting November 2019. The movement for a cell phone ban gained momentum during the last provincial election. Premiere Ford highlighted classroom cell phone bans in his election platform.

We’ve all grown accustomed to the bright red poppy worn throughout the beginning of November. Even though Remembrance Day occurs every year it’s easy to forget the importance of it. Remembrance Day isn’t only for remembering the past wars, lives lost and sacrifices, but also the present wars happening in countries around the world. Lives are being lost in the present. Although November 11th is Remembrance Day, we must remember everyday throughout the year of the past and present sacrifices of soldiers have made for you. Allowing you to live in peace and freedom.

Iroquois Went to the Polls

Two weeks ago at the Ridge students practiced their civic involvement by participating in our school-wide Student Vote. Grade 9’s, 10’s, 11’s and 12’s voted for an electoral candidate according to their electoral riding, Oakville or Oakville North Burlington. The candidates running in the Oakville  riding include Anita Anand(Liberal Party), Terence Young(Conservative Party), JD Meaney(People’s Party of Canada), Jerome Adamo(New Democratic Party), James Elwick(Green Party of Canada), and Sushila Pereira(Christian Heritage Party of Canada). Those running in the Oakville North Burlington riding include Gilbert Joseph Jubinville (People’s Party of Canada), Michael Houghton (Green Party), Nicholas Dion (NDP), Pam Damoff (Liberal Party) and Sean Weir (Conservative Party).
