Rick and Morty - The The Rickchurian Mortydate: TV Show Review

Well, Rick and Morty fans, season 3 has come to an end with the fantastic episode: The Rickchurian Mortydate (a play on words for the Manchurian Candidate). This season was bubbling with crude humour, interesting plot lines, and great characters. Luckily, the finale didn’t disappoint and it was one of the best episodes yet.

The Rickchurian Mortydate was the finale to a season that was debatably greater than the other two. Almost every episode was filled with an interesting and fun plot. Starting with "The Rickshank Rickdemption", this episode showed us great character development and an epic amount of chaos. “Pickle Rick” provided a look at the extent of Rick’s scientific capabilities, as well as some incredible fight scenes, and “Tales from the Citadel” provided a glimpse into the corrupt nature of the Council of Ricks. I was excited to see such an important ending to a strange episode, where the closing scene revealed that the new leader of the Citadel was truly Evil Morty. “Morty’s Mind Blowers” is a simple and fun way to show some Rick and Morty shorts. These episodes are all major highlights in the series, and yet they’re all just in season 3.

The finale also had an incredible amount of character development and the fight scene between Rick and the President was intense and hilarious. The constant bickering with the President was very entertaining, as Rick frequently addressed many controversies that are associated with presidential politics. Despite Rick’s rough transition from happy and cocky to hopeless and empty, this was a very fun episode to end the season with. We learned that Beth really isn’t a clone (right?), and Beth and Jerry finally got back together. Near the end of the episode we got a subtle 4th wall break from Beth, where she revealed that the fans can expect season 4 to be a lot like season 1. At the end of the episode, Mr. Poopy Butthole revealed that the next season isn’t coming anytime soon. This comes at a great disappointment, but I’m sure it will be worth the wait.

What did you think about The Rickchurian Mortydate? Did it live up to the hype of a season finale? And what are your predictions for season 4? (A plot related to Evil Morty and his connection to Rick would be very interesting.) Overall, season 3 of Rick and Morty was fantastic, and we can only hope that season 4 will surpass our expectations.
