Link Crew Movie Night

Last week, the IRHS Link Crew Team organized another amazing opportunity for the Grade 9 students to come out and have a blast, at the Link Crew Movie Night. This was a fun-filled night composed of a holiday movie, a cool game, prizes and of course a social opportunity! This year's holiday movie was Home Alone, which was an excellent choice for getting into the holiday spirit! A game of Kahoot was played at different scenes in the movie, where all participants signed into the game could play from their phones and see if they could pick the correct answer for a question asked about the movie. The person who answered the question right and was also one of the quickest would usually be near the top of the scoreboard. It was quite entertaining to see everyone trying to decide the correct answer before the time ran out! At the end of the night, the prizes, which were chocolate, were given to the top three participants of the game. Overall, the entire night was fantastic for everyone, Link Crew leaders and the Grade 9's attending, and gave all the Grade 9's a chance to come and hang out with their friends and enjoy a movie! The fact that the movie night was also right before the P.A. Day long weekend also helped the enjoyment as everyone could relax! The Link Crew Movie Night was another successful occasion for Iroquois Ridge High School and was another great memory made!

The Trials of Apollo

When the second Percy Jackson series, the Heroes of Olympus, ended, Rick Riordan promised he wouldn’t make an epilogue for the series. During promotions for the final book in the series, he said, “I hate epilogues. It's like nailing the coffin shut on the story, allowing for no further growth and leaving no room for the readers' imaginations.” But it turns out he really should have been more specific, because apparently the thing he only dislikes epilogues is when they explain the characters’ entire lives and ruin any future possibilities for the characters. But he seems perfectly content exploring those possibilities himself - especially now that he's announced a new series set in the world of Percy Jackson.

The Martian: Movie Review & Summary

Now Playing||Directed by Scott Ridley

When I first bought the ticket to see the Martian, I had very high hopes for the film. The movie sports a famous cast list including Matt Damon, Jessica Chastain and Kristen Wiig. It earned 448.3 million at the box office and is still playing in theatres, making a name for itself in the top box office list of 2015.

It's also received many positive reviews as a film adaptation. According to a review on Rotten Tomatoes, critics found: "The result is an awe-inspiring adventure that explores vast ideas while staying grounded in very human emotional territory." Like many others, the critics judged and approved of the visual effects, the overall likability (due to Matt Damon's performance), and the scientific accuracy of the film.
