The Grade Nine Dance of 2017

This year to welcome all the new grade nine students to the Ridge, the fantastic Link Crew leaders upheld the tradition of the Grade Nine Dance. Whether you enjoy dancing with your best buds, buying all the popcorn, wearing some ‘lit’ glow bands, hanging out with some dudes you just met, playing some fierce games of table-tennis or just coming out to have a good time, this year's Grade Nine Dance had it all since there was something special for everyone. It was specially reserved to just our amazing grade nine student body, the Interact team and the Link Crew.

The entire dance was from 6pm to 9pm, but we all should appreciate all the hard work and the many countless hours from everyone who worked behind the scenes to make sure the entire event was a success. The entire Link Crew worked tirelessly to make sure the dance went well, and all their hard work was well worth it, as the Grade 9 Dance this year was incredible. Almost every grade nine student attended and by the look of everything, everyone had a blast.

During the first hour, everyone was grouped together in the Street to play various games, to purchase snacks and to enter the raffle/jar guessing contests. Not a single person was not completely enjoying themselves, because everyone had so many great options on what to do, from playing volleyball in the Street, to table-tennis in the forum, and the biggest hit - drop ball. For a few tickets (bought at the beginning of the night and handed out at the door when entering the event for free for grade nine students), anyone could aim and throw a ball into a basket/garbage can from the second floor staircase. Everyone seemed to love this game, and eventually not even the Link Crew Leaders could stop students from trying it from the third floor. The best part about the fantastic game was that you got candy as a prize for scoring, now that's a good reason to play. There was also a refreshment booth where people could purchase bottled water and cotton candy. Those water bottles also sold out quite quick because if you can imagine, 200 people were all out dancing in the small space of the cafeteria and it got hot, quick and at one point everyone just decided that the water fountains were not good enough.

For the remaining few hours of the brilliant dance, everyone actually got up and made their way to the cafeteria floor to dance the rest of the night away. The Ridge’s extremely helpful and intelligent ComCo Team helped by lending their supreme knowledge to set up all the various sound, lights and tech equipment. Our own StudCo Co-Prime Minister, Thomas Desmarais, was the dance’s great (and official) DJ, wearing his headphones backwards and taking pictures and videos the whole time through.

Everyone seemed to be loving the dance, especially all the amazing Link Crew Leaders who helped to plan and run the dance, as they were also enjoying themselves while dancing their hearts out. The entire night was quite special, as it was a fabulous way to welcome all the grade nines and showed them how hype and amazing the Ridge really is. The whole dance was a great experience for everyone and it was an extremely fun event.
