Changes for Ridge Report!

It's that time of year - time to take on this year's Ridge Report Junior Editors! We know a lot of you have been waiting for this, so we're happy to announce that the application form is now out. If you're interested in applying, the application form is here! Applications are due by January 17th, and junior editors will be notified before the new semester.

We're also happy to announce that we're relaunching the Ridge Report twitter page! Make sure to check it out!

This marks the first and possibly last Bridge Report, where once a month we’re going to talk a whole lot about bridges and pollute Ridge Report with our presence.

2018 Municipal Candidates Meeting

On October 22, the town of Oakville is once again holding elections for municipal government.  The school will also be participating in the province-wide Student Vote on Wednesday October 17. Students will be excused from their classes to cast for thein their vote on Wednesday, and any who are 18 years old are encouraged to vote.

To get youth involved, several staff and students at Iroquois Ridge have organized a meet and greet and a debate with some of the candidates. Last Thursday, the library filled with students as Student Vote members Sarah Kronenfeld, Alyson Rodrigues, and Jack Savelli, invited our guest candidates to ask several student-submitted questions. Their goal was to engage Iroquois Ridge students to take interest in their community and give those students a direct connection with the town leaders. This would also allow them to better their understanding of the problems Oakville faces and how the people running for government plan to confront them.

The Walk out for Sex-Ed and the Truth and Reconciliation act

The walkout was an amazing event, that brought a wide-range of students with like-minded views together. It allowed for an amazing discussion of the sex-education curriculums and the changes that need to be made to both the 2015 and 1998 editions. Many students who were unaware of these issues or agreed with Doug Ford’s changes came forward and expressed their opinions to the crowd- respectfully. It was overall, an amazing experience.

October is a great month full of cozy fall moments and the best Ridge events and I needed to reflect that in my choices. I’ve been exploring a lot of new artists (and some old ones too) over the past month and figuring out what to play for you guys. In my family, music is a must. We listen to tunes constantly. During dinners and car rides and of course whenever we have people over. Music is a great way to connect with people and to make those awkward hangouts a little less uncomfortably quiet. All summer, concerned citizens have been demonstrating against recent large-scale changes to the
Ontario curriculum. On September 21st, tens of thousands of students from across the province walked out of their classrooms en masse in protest of these new changes. On the 23rd - a week ago today - over a hundred protesters came out to Queen’s Park to make their voices heard about the issue. And the movement is nowhere near over.

BRidge Day 2018

On Thursday April 19th, hundreds of Grade 8 students from various schools across the Halton Board attended BRidge Day, the amazing inclusive conference at the Ridge. They had the opportunity to explore their future school, understand its workings and experience several fun workshops lead by the students of IRHS. This day prepared them for what to expect and how to be a successful student next year.

Candidates' Meeting 2018

This Monday and Tuesday (May 28th and 29th)  Iroquois Ridge High School will be participating in the provincial Student Vote. This program is designed to measure the opinions of future generations of voters, and the results are tallied throughout the province and released to the media after general polling. Earlier this month, on the 15th of May, candidates from both of the ridings that Iroquois Ridge represents (from Oakville and Oakville North Burlington) came into our school to address the student body directly about their platforms and to encourage students to come out and vote.

CommCo 2017/18- The Key Committee for Iroquois Ridge’s Spectacular Events!

Iroquois Ridge is known for hosting some incredible events! From our annual scary movie
night, to the art battle in the street, and ending off with Big Bash as our grand finale.
Needless to say, this school definitely knows how to get its students engaged and excited
for a year round of thrilling events, but have you ever wondered just how Iroquois’ events
become the word on the street? The answer is simple, it's the ridge’s very own
Communications Council, better known by our fellow Trailblazers as, CommCo.

CommCo is one of the main reasons why events such as coffeehouse, assemblies
and concerts are so attentively taken care of and smoothly coordinated. Carrying the weight
